چکیده

Websites are commonly used to expose data to end users, enabling search, filter, and download capabilities making it easier for users to find, organize and obtain data relevant to their own interests. With the continuous growth of data in the Life Sciences domain, it becomes difficult for users to easily find information required for their research on one single website. Search engines should make it easier for researchers to search and retrieve collated information from multiple sites so they can better decide where to go next. Schema.org is a collaborative project providing schemas for semantically structuring data in web pages. By adding semantic mark-up it becomes easier to determine whether a web page refers to a book or a movie. It also facilitates summarizing information in a fashion similar to infoboxes used in Wikipedia. Bioschemas is a community effort aiming to extend schema.org to support mark-up for Life Sciences websites. Here we present an overview of the main types used and proposed by Bioschemas in order to support such mark up. Availability: http://bioschemas.org/

Bioschemas: From Potato Salad to Protein Annotation

The life sciences have a wealth of data resources with a wide range of overlapping content. Key repositories, such as UniProt for protein data or Entrez Gene for gene data, are well known and their content easily discovered through search engines. However, there is a long-tail of bespoke datasets with important content that are not so prominent in search results. Building on the success of Sche...

HL7 FHIR and Schema.org

Schema.org was developed by a number of major search engine companies such as Bing, Google and Yahoo! as a common vocabulary for marking up web pages. The combination of HTML and Microdata, RDFa 1.1 Lite or JSON-LD enables a well-known set of semantic tags to be added to existing human-readable web pages. Schema.org has been widely adopted by public web sites and multiple extensions have been c...

Analyzing Schema.org

Schema.org is a way to add machine-understandable information to web pages that is processed by the major search engines to improve search performance. The definition of schema.org is provided as a set of web pages plus a partial mapping into RDF triples with unusual properties, and is incomplete in a number of places. This analysis of and formal semantics for schema.org provides a complete bas...

Domain Specific Semantic Validation of Schema.org Annotations

Since its unveiling in 2011, schema.org has become the de facto standard for publishing semantically described structured data on the web, typically in the form of web page annotations. The increasing adoption of schema.org facilitates the growth of the web of data, as well as the development of automated agents that operate on this data. Schema.org is a large heterogeneous vocabulary that cove...

Exposing Library Holdings Metadata in RDF Using Schema.org Semantics

Libraries have been busy transforming and publishing their data as linked open data by testing already existing semantics and developing new sets of semantics. So far, most of the efforts have focused on the bibliographic data, not the holdings and item related data that are unique to individual libraries and that help users access the information resources they need. The University of Illinois...
